Narratives Of Living With An Invisible Illness
My project aims to make the ‘invisible’ visible to others. Having an invisible illness is a challenge, being repeatedly told that we look, and sound fine can lead us to think it’s our fault that we are sick or in pain. I aim to create awareness of the struggles and misconceptions of living with such an illness. In October 2022 I received a clinic review from my neurologist stating “Unfortunately, she may never fully recover”. This has had a big impact on the way my work is influenced. As this is such a personal subject to me, my project is considerably vulnerable. Without playing into being a victim and illustrating only negatives, I want to use my voice for empowerment of others. This piece of work is a photographic cyanotype of the medicine I take daily, it ensures I can live a somewhat ‘normal’ life. But it is not a cure. I am giving the audience a personal insight into my life.
